BEWiSynbra enters into cooperation agreement with SalMar and starts construction of new EPS factory

BEWiSynbra Group, a leading supplier of packaging and insulation solutions in Europe, enters into a long-term agreement with SalMar for the delivery of fish boxes to SalMar’s new slaughterhouse and processing plant at Senja in northern Norway, InnovaNor. Based on the collaboration agreement, BEWiSynbra starts construction of its fifth EPS factory in Norway.

“This is an important and gratifying agreement for us. We have had a long and good collaboration with SalMar on Frøya, where we deliver fish boxes to their slaughterhouse InnovaMar. We now have the opportunity to build on this collaboration and at the same time strengthen our investment in Northern Norway, a region we have great faith in in the future,” says Rune Kvilvang, general manager of BEWiSynbra in Norway.

BEWiSynbra currently has four factories in Norway where primarily fish boxes made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) are produced. Since EPS consists of 98 per cent air, it is appropriate to establish production of EPS boxes near where the boxes are to be filled with products. BEWiSynbra will, therefore, build its factory integrated with SalMar’s new slaughterhouse and processing plant.

“We are proud to build Northern Norway’s largest and most modern salmon factory on Senja. InnovaNor is strategically important to us at SalMar, as the plant will give us significantly increased flexibility and further processing capacity in northern Norway. We are therefore very pleased that BEWiSynbra wants to strengthen its investment in this region in collaboration with us “, says Frode Arntsen, director of industry and sales in Salmar.

EPS has long been a preferred material for packaging products, including for the transport of salmon. Since EPS mostly consists of air, the material provides good insulation, so that the fish is kept cold. In addition, the boxes are shock-absorbing and very light, so they are very suitable for transport.
