Our history and milestones since the outset of BEWI in 1980.

BEWI’s milestones

Since the outset in 1980 on the island Frøya off the coast of central Norway, the dedication to creating value to our customers, the society and our owners have established BEWI as a driving market force by offering sustainable solutions in innovative and efficient ways.
  • 1980

    BEWI was founded by the Bekken family on Frøya in Norway. Focus on the packaging and building insulation products.

  • 2014

    The merger of BEWI and EPS manufacturer StyroChem into BEWI Group

    Acquisition of packaging operations from SCA Packaging

  • 2016

    Investment in extrusion technology in Porvoo, Finland.

  • 2017

    Acquisition of Finnish XPS manufacturer

    Acquisition of Swedish packaging operations

  • 2018

    Acquisition of the Dutch company Synbra Holding and forming the group BEWiSynbra

    Acquisition of Norwegian operations for fish boxes and Swedish operations for automotive components

    Launch of BEWI Circular, focusing on recycling operations

  • 2019

    Acquisition of the recycling company EcoFill

    Acquisition of the recycling company Eurec

    Acquisition of minority stake (34%) of 6 insulation facilities in Germany and 6 in France, including Saint-Gobain’s EPS operations in France

    Launch of the world’s first 100% recycled EPS

  • 2020

    Establishment of a recycling company in Portugal and Circular Denmark.

    Acquisition of insulation facility in Norrköping, Sweden,

    Acquisition of Dutch recycling company Poredo

    Acquisition of BEWI Drift Holding in Norway, including trading operations

    Entering the UK market by acquiring a minority stake (49%) of Jablite Group

    Listing on Oslo Stock Exchange.

    Acquisition of majority stake of Danish paper packaging company Honeycomb Cellpack

    Acquisition of majority stake of listed Polish company IZOBLOK

    Acquisition of UK based recycling company Volker Gruppe

    Acquisition of Belgian insulation company Kemisol Group

  • 2022

    Invests in a new recycling hub in Stockholm

    Acquisition of the paper packaging company Trondhjems Eskefabrikk

    Acquisition to become 100% owner of UK-based insulation and packaging company Jablite Group

    Acquisition of Berga Recycling Inc., a trading platform for materials for recycling

    Acquisition of the Lithuanian insulation company BalPol

    Acquisition of the leading European packaging and insulation company Jackon Holding

    Acquisition of the Spanish insulation company Aislenvas

    BEWI becomes owner of 100% of recycling company Inoplast

    Divestment of real estate portfolio

    Sales of shares in KMC Properties ASA

    Launch of new production line for recycled raw material

  • 2024

    Commitment to Science Based Targets Initiative

    Introduction of new EPS grades and fish boxes with 60% lower CO2 footprint, both based on recycled feedstock.

    Opening of circular hub in Norrköping, Sweden

    Strengthening of automotive business by acquisition of assets from insolvent part of Philippine group
