Structural Board EPS Panels and Top Sheet
Thermal Floor System Pre-stressed concrete beams and closure blocks
BBA-certified 14/5094
Blaze Construction is the contractor for all the ground works on a large residential site around the Newbury Racecourse. BEWI started supplying its Structural Board Thermal Floor System to Blaze in September 2019 at the start of Phase 4 of the site.
Nigel Hull, Site Foreman, Blaze Construction, is keen to praise BEWI’s floor system and high standard of service, “The system is very easy to handle and install, I prefer it to a competitor’s system we installed earlier.
“We get the beams and the EPS (expanded polystyrene) panels all delivered on the same day and will typically easily get four or five plots done in a week. We use steel mesh A142 and a structural concrete topping. The steel mesh helps to hold the panels in place while we wait for the concrete delivery – although the floor is always a good tight fit and is unlikely to blow away. But as we are right next to a race course we have to be sure!
“I order the product from site and it goes across to our buyer in the office who makes the order with BEWI. The great thing is if I have a problem, I only have to call BEWI it will be sorted out straightaway.”
“The BEWI system is simple to install and the 1200 by 1200 boards enable a fast installation,” says Will Haynes, Tilbury Contracts. “BEWI HP Inverted Roof Insulation achieves the required U-Values for this development, whilst reducing the thickness of the roof insulation. The BEWI boards are designed with an overlap to prevent lifting during installation.”
“We are really pleased with the system and the great service. BEWI worked with us to make sure the delivery met the needs of a busy operational site with limited entry routes that are so common with London sites. ”
An inverted roof application maintains the insulation at an even temperature and protects the waterproof membrane from the damaging effects of UV radiation or from the weather.
BEWI Area Sales Manager, Colin Walker, commented, “This is such a great development of luxury apartments and its fantastic to see new life being breathed into the old power station and regenerating such a fantastic piece of historic architecture”.
The BEWI inverted roof range is supplied in 200 or 300 grade boards to meet the specified compression performance. The 200 HP boards were chosen to be used on Compton House due to the thickness requirements of the inverted roof on this development.
