The investment strengthens the production capacity and increases the use of recycled feedstock.

BEWI announces the opening of a new production line at its facility in Olen, Belgium, significantly strengthening the company’s production capacity for construction boards. The new, cutting-edge production line, a complement to the existing facility in Mechau, Germany, ensures enhanced delivery reliability and reduces distances to key European markets.

Positioning for growth

“We are proud to present our new state of the art production line here in Olen. The facility is designed with high degree of technology, robots, and automation. This enables a significant increase in the production capacity of construction boards and the use of recycled feedstock, positioning us for meeting customers’ demands, as well as for future growth”, emphasises Michael Schneider, Managing Director of BEWI’s operations within insulation and construction in Germany and Belgium.

Lowering production emissions

The core material in the construction boards, XPS (extruded polystyrene), is produced on-site, and the facility’s strategic location near the European market allows for a significant reduction in transportation, thereby lowering emissions. The use of green energy and a significant share of recycled raw material, rGPPS (general purpose polystyrene), reduces the CO₂ footprint from the production process. Logistical advantages and further process optimisation lead to higher resource efficiency and reduced emissions.

Enhancing delivery reliability

“Thanks to increased production capacities and logistic advantages, we can improve our high delivery reliability and personalised service for our customers. Moreover, the use of recycled material in our products significantly lowers the CO₂ footprint, providing additional benefits to our customers,” affirms Benoît Bertucat, Category Manager for construction boards.

The construction boards, well-known in the market under the brand Jackoboard®, are durable and waterproof underlayment for tiles. With a variety of customised solutions, the product series accelerates interior construction, especially the development and modernisation of bathrooms and sanitary rooms.
