BEWI contributes to better healthcare from the floor up at new Shrewsbury hospital

EPS floor insulation

Durable EPS floor solutions designed for a busy environment

A major hospital is taking shape in Shrewsbury, England, creating modern healthcare facilities for patients, staff and the local community. As part of the project, BEWI is supplying nearly 2000 square meters of EPS (expanded polystyrene) floor insulation boards across every level of the building, contributing to a durable and energy-efficient construction.

The project forms part of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust’s Hospital Transformation Programme and the UK Government’s New Hospital Programme.

Withstanding everyday hospital operations

The building’s floors must accommodate high loads from hospital beds, trolleys and the daily movement of patients and staff. Installed beneath the screed as part of the underfloor heating system, BEWI’s EPS insulation helps create a durable floor construction while contributing to lower energy consumption throughout the building

“We are delighted to work with BEWI on this project and happy to select the EPS floor system, due to its enhanced operating specification and its high load-bearing capability as part of the build-up for the underfloor heating system,” says VINCI Building, the project developer.

Working closely throughout the build

Throughout the project, BEWI has worked closely with contractors and installers, providing guidance to help ensure the floor system is installed according to the project’s requirements.

“The EPS floor system from BEWI is easy to work with, helping to speed work on the build. We are confident that the installation will play an important part in creating a comfortable environment for patients and staff and helping to reduce running costs,” says Midlands Floor Screeding, the project contractor.
