Demand Planning

Juggling products, locations and countries - I love it!
We always have something suitable for every customer

Bringing purchasing, sales and production together and making the best use of our raw materials is something I love!

Hanna-Mari Pyyhtiä is a whiz at keeping balls in the air. As Demand Planner at BEWI RAW, she plans the production of the three production facilities of BEWI RAW in Porvoo (Finland), Wismar (Germany) and Etten-Leur (Netherlands). ‘My worst nightmare is that once we can’t deliver; but in practice, we always have something suitable for every customer,’ she says.

The best of all worlds

‘It can be pretty hefty you know,’ Hanna explains. ‘Everything we do is based on an assessment of customer demand. Sales helps me with that. But of course we also have to be able to meet that high demand on time. And so I have to switch with Production. In three countries. And then, of course, we need substances to make it, read: Purchasing. Bringing all those worlds together and then going for the optimal planning is something I find absolutely wonderful.’

Thinking along and out of the box

‘My education was international trade and marketing, and then I went into logistics. When I started doing this work, I immersed myself in the whole production process. So I can understand all those departments very well, fortunately, and I know the world of quite a few customers. Moreover, I can see the trends across all those markets.

That also makes me like to spar with my sales colleagues, so that we are more efficient with all our raw materials. ‘Has your customer ever tried this bead, I ask. And sometimes it turns out it works just a bit better than the bead they were always using.

Why should you work here as a woman?

‘I see it slowly changing. More and more women are finding out about the chemical industry and engineering. Young women too. For example, because you can really achieve a huge amount here in terms of sustainability. BEWI takes that role very seriously and every step in this traditional industry has a lot of ‘green’ effect right away!

As a woman, you can accelerate this development. By looking ahead and taking the customer by the hand, as Liv (Olsson) does very well. Moreover, women are generally good at multitasking and planning. And anyway, we have just a different view, a new perspective. Always useful, right?’
