BEWI commits to Science Based Targets Initiative

Aligning with the 1.5-degree scenario and the Paris Climate Agreement

BEWI announces its commitment to align with the 1.5-degree scenario outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement by committing to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science, focusing on accelerating companies to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. The initiative is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and is designed to assist companies in setting and achieving emission reduction targets.

“We are happy to confirm our commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative and look forward to submit our climate reduction plan and ambitious targets for validation and approval,” says Camilla Bjerkli, Chief Sustainability Officer of the BEWI Group.

BEWI has worked systematically to continuously improve its climate account since the baseline was set for 2020. The company reports on all categories within scope 1, 2 and 3 of the GHG protocol.

“Establishing a climate account is quite easy, while transforming this to deep knowledge and understanding the impact and opportunities this bring to our business is a time-consuming task that has to evolve over time,” Bjerkli continues.
