Jackodur® XPS insulation

Residential construction project in the Netherlands sets new standards for design, sustainability and energy efficiency with inverted roof solution using Jackodur® XPS insulation.

Bungalows that blend in harmoniously and seamlessly with surrounding landscape. Pioneering and efficient construction focusing on energy neutrality: the residential construction project ‘t Eemgoed in Almere, Netherlands, is setting standards. Jackodur® XPS insulation is making a significant contribution toward satisfying these 82 residential units’ high sustainability requirements.

Incorporated in nature

The special architectural concept of ‘t Eemgoed is apparent at first glance: the bungalows are surrounded by green and incorporated in nature, making these 60-to-150-square-meter buildings an integrated part of the landscape. Green roofs and surrounding green spaces foster a healthy micro-climate and counteract soil sealing. At the same time, the planted roofs create an even higher quality of living by serving as playgrounds or private vegetable gardens for the residents.

Inverted roof with vegetation

For this ambitious residential construction project, the architects selected the inverted roof solution with Jackodur®. The boards offer several benefits at once: high insulation values and continuous protection of the building structure, but also the green roof option, which provides a rainwater buffer, attracting bees and other insects, and underscores the sustainable character of the building. Another factor is the weight benefit that comes with the lean structure of the inverted roof thanks to the highly efficient, light weight and durable Jackodur® products.

Added value of Jackodur® Plus

“The inverted roof solutions provide permanent protection against moisture damage. Jackodur® Plus insulation boards also help ensure this”, explains Sjoerd van de Werf of Quality Roofing Systems. He recommended the Jackodur® products especially for their durability, robustness and ease of processing. “Jackodur® Plus insulation boards have an outstanding lambda value of 0.027 W/(m·k). As a result, the boards exhibit excellent insulation efficiency – which was a decisive factor in this unique project. Less volume is needed, demanding less transport and providing considerable cost and weight benefits. Jackodur® Plus also enables fast and easy installation – which means genuine added value in the construction phase,” continues van de Werf.

Comprehensive support during the construction phase

These benefits enabled workers to install about 7500 square meters of insulation boards on a tight schedule. In close coordination with all participants, a tailor-made logistics concept was implemented for this purpose. The result is a unique, energy-neutral residential project with green roofs, where the Jackodur® inverted roof solution made a significant ecological contribution.

The residential construction project ‘t Eemgoed in Almere, Netherlands, meets the highest standards of living comfort and sustainability. The inverted roofs with JACKODUR® Plus help achieve the high energy efficiency.
